Kaboom Town

I meant to post this sooner than now, but I got distracted watching Dallin walk. :) Here is our 4th of July Celebration in Addison, Texas.

Addison is known as "Kaboom Town" and they win awards each year for being the top Fireworks show all over the US!  Here's a few of their recognitions:

Bing - Ranked #11 World's Best Fireworks Displays
AOL -
Ranked #3 Fireworks Show in the US
Yahoo -
America's Most Amazing 4th of July Fireworks Displays

With all those recognitions, and being less than 10 miles away, we had to go see it!  They do a flight show before it gets dark so we watched planes fly around us while we sat in traffic for an hour (yep, everyone else thought it'd be fun to go see the best show in the country too!).

As we walked to the fireworks we got to see a plane do tricks and stall the engine and free fall and twirl all over.  Pretty neat!  A short video is below:

We found a perfect spot close to the fireworks, away from the main event, and close to a car playing the radio (they have music synced for the show).

Dallin liked watching them again.  He got distracted with food and people and other things closer to us, but still thought they were pretty neat.

It was a really neat show.  Have you ever been to a fireworks show when you wonder if it's over because of the long pauses in between the fireworks being shot off? We have in the past, but that was not the case with this one! They shot tons of fireworks for 30 minutes straight.

The finale was AMAZING!!  I've never seen so many fireworks being shot off at once (not even at Stadium of Fire in Provo which is a pretty good fireworks show)!  "The Star Spangled Banner" played during it and the fireworks were so loud they set off car alarms quite a distance away. It's hard to hear the song in the video below, but you can hear the car alarms towards the end. What a finale!  Here it is for you to enjoy:

It was a really good show, but traffic afterwards wasn't! We only live 9.4 miles away and Google Maps shows that as a 13 minute drive. After this show, it took us close to 2 hours to get home!  We went 1.8 miles in an hour! Crazy, and ridiculous!

Time we left the parking lot in Addison

Lots of traffic, everywhere!

Time we arrived in our parking lot at home.

We are glad we went. It was worth seeing once, but we don't know that we'll brave the crowds and traffic in the future!
